Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2008 menswear show, designed by Frida Giannini, presented a confident mix of sharp tailoring and subtle 1970s glamour. The collection focused on slim silhouettes, long coats and rich fabrics such as velvet, wool and leather. Dark tones dominated the runway - black, charcoal, deep brown and burgundy - giving the show a refined and slightly dramatic mood.
The styling reinforced this elegant but rock-inspired attitude. Wide lapels, fitted trousers and velvet blazers referenced the glamour of 70s music culture, while accessories like leather gloves, polished boots and large structured bags added a modern, urban edge. Grooming remained simple: natural skin, relaxed hair and minimal styling kept the focus on the clothes and their strong shapes.
Among the many looks shown on the runway, a few stood out immediately. Below are some of my favourite looks from the show and the details that make them memorable.
The Bags - Structure and Heavy Detail
The bags in the Gucci FW2008 menswear show are one of the most distinctive elements of the collection. They have a strong, almost architectural structure, which makes them look solid and luxurious at the same time.
Many bags are decorated with metal studs, small chains and hanging charms, adding movement and texture. Some pieces feature multiple metal pendants and heavy hardware, which gives them a slightly rebellious character. At the same time, the classic Gucci monogram appears on several designs, sometimes combined with leather or suede panels.
The shapes are usually large and practical - holdalls, totes and structured messenger bags. Even the straps often include metal details and decorative elements, showing how much attention was given to these accessories.
For us, the bags are one of the best elements of the runway. They perfectly balance decoration and structure. Despite the heavy details, they still feel very timeless - pieces that could easily work in a wardrobe even today.

The Makeup and Grooming
The makeup in the Gucci FW2008 menswear show was subtle but very intentional. Models appeared with very pale skin and dark, slightly smudged black around the eyes. This contrast created a sharp and dramatic face without using heavy makeup.
The pale complexion gave the models a cool, almost distant look, while the black eyes added intensity. The effect referenced 1970s glam rock aesthetics, where musicians often used dark eye makeup and pale skin to create a theatrical stage presence.
At the same time, the look also carried a slightly gothic and mysterious mood. It made the models appear more serious, controlled and powerful, which matched the dark tailoring and rich fabrics shown on the runway.
Hair remained natural and slightly long, styled loosely to keep the overall appearance effortless. Together, the pale skin and dark eyes gave the show a dramatic, rock-inspired character, reinforcing the collection’s strong and confident attitude.
